Building Made Well
Our Story
In 2012, after receiving a stage IV cancer diagnosis of Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, Kasey Van Norman set her heart to study and understand the underlying factors of disease and poor quality of life as they related to unprocessed trauma and environment. After years of rigorous chemotherapy and feeling like “just a number” in clinical settings, the Van Normans knew there had to be a better solution. They realized what they needed most in their darkest days of doubt, loneliness, and frustration was a community working together under the banner of preventative, restorative care. Not in a hospital or clinic, but in a home. Through the realized dream of Made Well House, the Van Normans have committed their life’s work to create a beacon of hope & healing for the Brazos Valley community.
A licensed counselor and trauma specialist for 20 years, Kasey spent a decade researching the benefits of a whole-person approach to health. The Van Normans’ time spent serving in the nonprofit sector of Bryan-College Station was specifically beneficial. It allowed them access to learning about larger, target populations experiencing poor physical, mental, relational, and spiritual health. To their surprise, the common denominator for low quality of life did not mostly stem from a person’s lack of income, poor decisions, or past trauma, but instead, from a devestating loss of relationships; a reality Kasey personally experienced one year before receiving her cancer diagnosis. A story she addresses candidly in her memoir, Nothing Wasted.
In 2019, the Van Normans purchased a historic home built in 1905 located in the heart of downtown Bryan, hoping to restore her to a public community space offering affordable, holistic health and wellness services. Their personal relationship with Jesus Christ gave them the strength and perseverance to open the Made Well House in August of 2023. As of January 2026, the Made Well House has served more than 5,000 members.
Members of Made Well choose to embrace their healing, not in isolation or as stigma, but intentionally through connection. MW members not only create an organic sense of belonging through the day-to-day community, but also help share the financial burden by donating to wellness scholarships with their service. Every penny of donation goes to support a worthy neighbor living in the Brazos Valley and experiencing devastating relational or financial loss.
As the Van Normans recently celebrated Kasey’s 10-year remission anniversary, they pray Made Well House will grow to be a beacon of hope and healing for many in the Brazos Valley.
The now hundreds of monthly MW members are working as a healing community to make holistic health options affordable and attainable for all in the Brazos Valley. Made Well House offers a safe, dignified space with the highest caliber of professional services at a cash pay rate, or, scholarship rate for qualifying members. As a community we help bear one another’s burdens by giving to our at-risk neighbors health and wellness needs.
